Tom is a professional musician and educator. He has worked for many years in the professional music industry as a multi-instrumentalist, writer, producer and band-leader, in the UK, Europe and the USA. He has also spent many years as a music educator. He holds a Professional Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) a Licentiate of Trinity College London (LTCL) and is a Fellow of the Guild of Singers & Musicians (FGMS) he has taught at various colleges and leading independent schools.

Tom made neurophysiology a primary focus in his teaching degree and continues to use this empirical approach to music pedagogy. These insights into how the brain learns gives students an edge as they can simultaneously develop their procedural, and semantic memory, allowing them to attach meaning to their live performances and practical skill to enhance their musical knowledge.

Tom feels that learning should be more like gardening and less like architecture: having everything laid out, rigid and inflexible isn’t conducive to a meaningful musical education. Rather education should be more about planting seeds in a nourishing environment and allowing the student to grow, albeit with monitoring and occasional pruning.
